POSEIDONE was company project funded under the POR FESR Sardegna 2014-2020 programme that aimed at building an open-source platform model for the continuous monitoring of the water system, allowing for drastically breaking the scheme typically imposed by the commercial production cycle of the large licensing-based multinationals, which today have the monopoly of management and water monitoring in Italy, Sardinia and the world in general. Networked objects must be able to detect and capture the state of the surrounding environment by communicating directly with the end-user and with other objects, processing the obtained data to allow a continuous evolution of the system. The following four characteristics are necessary to make a platform evolutionary: Cooperation between objects: to run applications distributed that access the functionality of objects belonging to systems with different owners. Interoperability: the adoption of standard interfaces and semantic tools enable the exchange of data between platforms; Exploiting and using: the capacity to be easily integrated into smart grids allowing monitoring, control and resource optimization; Continuous developing: through Quality of Experience (QoE) assessment it is evaluated the success of the applications and the need for implementation improvement. The key elements of the architecture developed in Poseidone are the following ones: Pipeline to be monitored; IoT flowmeter; Intelligent platform; Software application for system monitoring (mobile app).
